Vuyiseka Cawe: Living Her Dream

Being an actress/actor is probably not as easy as it seems, from switching between your character and yourself in an instance to your followers regarding you as your on screen persona even when you’re just walking down your street ( as your real self). For Vuyiseka Cawe it has proven to be an interesting career choice especially after landing two different roles at the time and also having the two characters on opposite ends of the yardstick.

On The Queen, Vuyiseka plays the young housewife (Listerina) to the police captain, Sthembiso, who came into town to celebrate her anniversary but was met with a surprising turn of events when her husband missed their anniversary celebration, which led her to believe that he is cheating (which made way for an interesting turn of events) but later learnt that all his late nights and suspicious activities was all because he was working undercover to solve a big case. Her character set a good impression with the viewers because they enjoyed the way she stood up for herself and they found her character entertaining.

On the other end of the yardstick, Vuyiseka plays a much older character on Imbewu: The Seed. Nokuzola is Zanokuhle’s elder sister on this soapie, who is against the new makoti is her family, Nokukhanya; she is set on tradition and wanted her brother to marry someone that the family had chosen for him and not someone he believes was chosen for him, by God, but she ends up disappointed as Zanokuhle ends up marrying Nokukhanya.

Vuyiseka has always nurtured her love and interest for on screen play as recognised on our screens in soapies such as Rockville (supporting role as Owethu) in 2015 and Ekasi our stories: Brothers in Arms (lead role as Johanna). It doesn’t end there; you might also remember her The Gift (as Poppy), The Great Mistake or as a presenter on Dstv: Kingdom Pictures. She’s also been in a few adverts for Airwick, New Age and Maltina.

Vuyiseka says her interest in acting was sparked while watching movies, especially Pretty Woman [because] I was in awe of how Julia Roberts played that role”. Her two polar opposite characters have proven to be the challenge that she is enjoying as she gets to challenge her thinking, especially as a young adult playing the role of an older woman.
