When you think of the East Rand, one of the main things that should come to mind is the many talents and creatives that have come from the region. One of which is the all round studio personality, Rey 40hz (Real name Lesego Malaka). Rey 40hz, who recently signed to Framed Music, is all about expressing his emotions through song writing or making beat.
He only started recording his music in high school but his love for music started way before then. His passion and undying love for music production amplified when he started sharing more of his music and started receiving love for his art. Seeing how his music moved people encouraged him to keep growing in his talent and exploring it even more.
Mood Swings EP - one of his latest bodies of work, is a listening experience of sorts. The EP has 5 tracks and it is inspired by Rey’s recent life experiences and his feelings around everything he has been through. The body of work is centred around relationships, heartbreak and unhappy endings. The production of the tape was done mostly by himself, Uche and Prophet Brendin Links.
The cover art is a telling image of the story behind the music – the dark emotions, heart break, and the muse behind it all. There is a meaning to all the detail on the cover art and it links to the message that the music is conveying. The music is always better when the story is real (and relatable) and I think Rey’s music ticks all the boxes.
'Hello' is one of his other recent singles that he dropped. Have a listen to the snippet below:
