M’ax is a 20-year-old singer, songwriter, dancer and content creator (just to name a few of her talents). The Zambian born star on the rise, is best known for her debut EP, Based On A True Story (BOATS) and her award-winning radio shows on TuksFM.
The RnB and soul singer describes herself as a diverse and multi-faceted artist whose art is a strong display of honesty and self-sufficiency in all its forms! Growing up with a passion for entertainment, M’ax naturally found herself exploring different forms of entertainment from a young age as her mother recognised her raw talents and decided to put her in dance classes, she was also in the choir and different plays. As she grew up and went to varsity, M’ax decided to explore a different side of the industry – radio, which taught her what it means to be a creative and how to express her love for the different arts.
M’ax describes her debut EP, Based On A True Story, as a “classic love and heartbreak story, or at least the way I experienced it. It was written honestly about my first “true love” and basically just takes your through the whole cycle of meeting someone and being excited of where it could all go, getting to know them better, eventually fighting because of their inability to commit and finally being left in a very faraway place from your dreams for the relationship but still having a hope that maybe one day in the future it will work out.”
Since its release, on the 10th of July 2020, this body of work has accumulated over 50 000 streams and peaked the Apple Music RnB top charts at number 17, and number 49 across all genres. While staying true to her sound and her story she also notes Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez and Emeli Sande as major inspirations on this project.
Her second project, Sizzle, which dropped in November 2020, is a 6 track EP. This project is a little different as it is more in the pop genre but nonetheless it makes for an amazing listening experience which you can explore on your digital music platforms!
M’ax describes music as having “such a uniting and healing power that’s almost unexplainable. It is a spiritual experience and being able to experience that with other people for the rest of my life would be a dream come true.”
