Hailing from the East Rand in Kwa-Thema, C4 DJs are a dynamic amapiano DJ duo who have proven that ukushaya inumber is their game since day one! DJs Sakhile and Spizo have many years of experience on the decks but the amapiano wave took their craft to the next level!
While this explosive pair only joined forces last year at one of Deadly Combo’s events, they have shared the stage with many big DJs and artists such as DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Oscar Mbo, Nasty C, Kelvin Momo and a whole lot more!
DJ Sakhile was introduced to DJ’ing in 2008 which was sparked by his love for music. “I was part of [my] school’s band for 5 years which [taught me] to read music through music theory classes.” Sakhile started playing for large crowds in 2011, while he was in matric after his parents saw and approved of the passion he had for the craft. After matric, Sakhile had to take a break from the dream job to focus on his varsity studies but once he completed his studies in 2016 at UJ, he made a swift comeback to the game and hasn’t stopped since.
DJ Spizo, on the other hand, started his journey on the decks in 2001, inspired by the comeback of house music on one of his favourite radio stations at the time and his love for music, deep house music to be specific. “I was always in love with music since I was a kid with my older brothers collecting music and I was constantly listening and falling in love [with] music till this day.”
Spizo and Sakhile came together as C4 DJs at Kelvin Momo’s album launch event in 2020 at Mtaito’s Lifestyle, where the DJs decided to have a 1-on-1 set and they clicked from there on. Their name was given to them by Tevin and Scoop (Deadly Combo), who have also become their management. Since then they also started hosting their event, C4 Fridays, every Friday at Mtaito's Lifestyle, which has become one of the biggest events around with some of the biggest headliners on their line-ups!
The pair recently took part of the Diesel Denim Friday competition - a national competition where Diesel, in partnership with Shimza and the HERO DJs from each city (Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town) selected a set of emerging DJs to showcase their talent. Oscar Mbo is the Johannesburg HERO DJ who selected C4 alongside their fellow East Rand DJs Gugu The DJ, DJ Khumo and Geshlover to take part in this competition. C4 held it down month by month throughout the competition and made it as far as the regional finals! Although they didn’t take to ultimate competition win, the gents see the opportunity to participate in the competition as a big win as it helped them grow as a team and in their craft.
If you’ve heard a C4 DJs set, you would agree that it is the ultimate groove experience! It’s safe to say the decks are in safe hands.
